In 2016, I fell in love with the luminescent mountain vistas, waterfalls, abandoned sites, streams and wild forests of the Catskills in New York.....only a 2 hour drive from my home. Why it took me so long to get there now mystifies me! I re-discovered the magical light and rugged landscapes that has inspired artists since the romanticism of the 1800's Hudson River art movement. I have hiked all over the area searching for shooting locations while attempting to avoid the bears, and ran several photo workshops benefiting from my finds. With many overcast or foggy days, the area is a natural soft box with it's light filtering through its dense forests, upon its many waterfalls and streams, numerous rock quarries (slate slabs used to pave NYC in the 1800s, AND my garden) and the banks of the historic Hudson River. I have also had the pleasure of shooting in many local homes built in the late 1800's and early 1900's with their wide plank wooden flooring, large windows, and unique architecture. After living in New Jersey for 17 years (currently), the Catskills is the only natural environment in my area that continually calls me to create with its unique qualities...Plus Woodstock is there and I love the 1960s vibe! So I view creating there as an ongoing art project shooting there yearly at a minimum.
